Smart Luggage Survival Guide 2025

Batteries, trackers, and the rules of the gate.

Published on January 12, 2026

The "perfect" tech-filled suitcase can quickly become a $500 paperweight if you don't follow airline safety rules. With lithium battery regulations tightening in 2025, knowing which bags are "cabin-only" and which are "banned" is essential.

The Battery Ban

In 2025, non-removable lithium-ion batteries are BANNED from both the cabin and the hold. If your bag has a built-in battery that can't be popped out, most airlines (including Delta, United, and Lufthansa) will refuse to board it.

AirTags & Trackers

Good news: Bluetooth trackers (AirTags, Tile) are now officially approved by the FAA and EASA. You can safely keep them in your checked luggage to track your bags in real-time.

Can I Check It?
Bag with removable Power Bank✅ YES (Take battery to cabin)
Bag with non-removable battery❌ NO (Banned from plane)
Smart Scooter Suitcase⚠️ Only if battery is <100Wh and removed

Always buy "Smart Luggage" with a battery that slides out easily. If you need a tool to remove it, you're doing it wrong.
